Design Process.

While conceptualizing the idea for the logo, I was drawn to the sharp images of the throwing stars. I stumbled across the symbol as I had been watching this particular anime and it made me think of drinking coffee for some reason. Thus the  shuriken-like shape stayed on. For the coffee bean shape, I used the obvious reference to the coffee drinking culture and incorporated it in to the artwork.

For the poster, I though about the shapes and designs created by barista's while they made mocha latte's or other creamy drinks. Because of that, the swirls and colour were born. I used striking text and also words that are a little harder to decipher because it draws people closer to the advertisement and thus creating pull of the audience. The loud words used incite a feeling of want and even the use of the green in the Koopi sign is to make people want the coffee as green is a colour that helps with hunger.

In the development process, I played around with many of the tools of Illustrator before settling on a particular fashion and size that I liked. I used loud colours and striking contrasts for the posters and the business card so that the effects would make it memorable to the public. I put coffee-like stains on the business cards so that people would link the cards to coffee and thus to the brand itself.

I did not want to put in so much detail for the letterhead because it would overpower the purpose of the letterhead and take the attention away from the logo and information at the bottom of the page. Thus simple lines and effects sufficed. The uniformed lines gave way to more curvy lines, accenting it and making the letterhead more professional looking.

Balancing

Symmetrical Balance
With symmetrical balance, a line in the middle, whether visible or not is made. with these two examples, we see a clear break in elements between the boy and girl in the first poster and a not so obvious break in the second one.

Asymmetrical Balance
Asymmetrical balance uses the advantage of differing elements whether in shape or colour to show contrast between the elements. In the Paranormal Activity poster, a contrast is set with the use of the older and younger sister standing side by side. In the middle of the poster there is the camera which shows the point in which the poster is split into two parts. With the Mean Girls poster on the other hand, the contrast is made with putting the character that Lindsey Lohan portrays in front of the other girls, showing importance for the character.

Radial Balance
with a radial balance, a point is taken, usually in the middle and distributed equally to form a circular form. with the first poster, the point of origin is the exact middle with the family's heads and bodies making up the entirety of the poster. With the second poster, it combines symmetrical, asymmetrical and radial balances, but using a point that is lower down, around where the "N" in Panda lies.

Contrast.

Contrast with Size.

The most obvious use of size to show difference is seen in the size of the rectangles that are used on the left side of the Microsoft 98 logo. By increasing the size of the rectangles from left to right, the illusion that the windows logo is flying is achieved. Also, the way the rectangles are placed (in a downwards curve) shows the direction that the windows logo is going, also increasing the illusion of moving.

Contrast with Colour.

The one thing that first captures the audiences attention is the bold colour of red on Black. After that, the silhouette of the character is seen by using black on white and white on black, this produces the effect of his whole body. It also then gives the effect of the black looking like a wall and the character standing menacingly by it.

Contrast with Tonal Value.

The most striking use of tonal value are the swirls behind James Bond that look like a barrel of a gun. The use of white to grey to black gives us the feeling of a "light at the end of the tunnel" where it would seem that the hero goes into the darkness to bring light. Which is why James is walking towards us and not into the light. Because then it would be called Dead Bond.
Contrast with Type.

this is the poster for the hit slasher movie of the '70s, Halloween. The use of different type of fonts to create the face of the serial killer known as Michael Myers. It not only uses the type of fonts that are somewhat eerie, but also font sizes that highlight details about the face, such as the eyelids, the neck and even ear.

Contrast with Shape.

There are four shapes that are used to complete the cover of this book, which also provide a clue to the story of the book itself. there is the triangle, the three circles, the triquetra and the outline of the woman. These show difference and contrast in the woman and makes the cover more striking.
